Some of the coldest weather we have had in decades, 3° F, has pushed the cold down into the earth a bit further and the color of the pasture has responded with more of the color brown. Warmer days thereafter have brought out the native hacksaw blackberry plants with their deep roots as well as the wild garlic to green up the mowed portion of the yard.

The ground looks barren with tractor tracks evident in the left most photographs. This is when you want to have a higher stand of grass with a carpet of mulch covering it to keep erosion down when the Winter rains come.
